I’m a bit high strung and always on the move. I talk fast, walk fast, even eat & drink
fast. Though this doesn’t sound like a
big deal, I sometimes try the same approach with my relationship with
Jesus. I try to rush through my quiet
times and sometimes fail to retain what He’s trying to teach me.
God loves us so much and longs for us to spend time with Him. He desires an intimate relationship. He gave us His love letter. As we read it and take the time to truly
understand it, we come to know Him. We
must slow down and focus on being intentional as we meditate on the Word of
God.
What matters is that God’s Word becomes such a part of our lives that we can
recall it when needed most. David says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not
sin against you” (Psalm 119:11). It
will spring up in moments of temptation.
It also helps eliminate fears and puts our thoughts into
perspective. The right verse will come
to mind, at the perfect time, only when we have truly hidden it in our hearts.
I’m realizing that His word is a lamp for my
feet, a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). I’ve recently
started memorizing scripture again. I’m
amazed at how it has reshaped my prayer life.
I’m learning how to pray according to His Word. The verses spring up and
allow me to speak life into others as I’m praying or counseling with friends.
My daughters and I are starting a new
adventure of memorizing God’s word. We
are each keeping a journal of the verses we learn, so that we can constantly
review them. Reviewing is essential for
retention to truly take place.
Quality is far better than quantity. I’m
learning to slow down and take smaller bites, at least when it comes to
Scripture. I’m finding that this change
is satisfying my soul. I’m able to ingest
the Word and carry it with me through the day.
Thy Word (Amy Grant)
Thank you for sharing your idea with all of us :) I'm going to start keeping a scripture journal and work on memorizing too!
