I don’t feel like journaling today. It’s been an ordinary day, with not much
excitement. The kids played. I paid bills. Stress started to creep
in. I’m tired. I’m distracted. Then out of no where my oldest daughter asks
me the question. What was your favorite
thing today? I love that about her. She finds joy in the most mundane tasks.
As I thought about it, the answer was clear: watching my
daughters play together. I enjoy watching
them play. They run, skip, & dance. They giggle & squeal. They are innocent, fun loving, and free from
all worry. They celebrate every new discovery.
They find beauty in everything. They
daydream. They are carefree.
When did that
carefree part of me die? When did I get
so focused on my worries and responsibilites?
If only I could push the bills, the dirty house, the
responsibilities of life out of my mind long enough to be carefree again. Today I felt a little down. I was planning for our upcoming vacation and
realized there wasn’t enough money for some of the extras. In the past I would
have been stressed, but I wasn’t.
I’m thankful to have the means to take a family vacation,
but once again, I want just a little more.
I feel guilty for letting disappointment lurk around. Why can’t I be more like my children, more
care free? Why can’t I be happy with I have?
Jesus told his disciples, “Unless you change
and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
(Matthew 18:3) What additional traits do
my daughters possess, that I need to acquire?
They forgive and forget. They are trusting. They seldom
worry. They depend on me to meet their needs and never doubt that I will take
care of them. They believe that their
Daddy can do anything. They are
teachable. They accept that sometimes the
answer is no. They are even obedient (most of the time).
WOW.
Daddy God, Thank you for opening my eyes, to see how special
my daughters are. They display so many
examples, of who I need to be. Help me
to learn to forgive & forget. Help
me to not worry. I want to truly depend
on you to meet my needs. Help me to
never doubt that my needs are taken care of.
Help me to be teachable. As I reach out to you, take me by the hand,
and lead me.
